I became aware of Michael Wohlfahrt via this YouTube video with Christoph Juhn and Christoph Heuermann. In the video, he had quite a few contrary opinions (šŸ˜‚) and seemed to be relatively pragmatic.

The "web" of companies is somewhat difficult to penetrate as an outsider. Externally, he appears with the company EasyDigiTax, which is a Cypriot Limited (?). At the same time, there is also kwpartners, which in turn is a German GmbH and where he is an employed (?) tax advisor.

In any case, for the initial consultation, you fill out the contact form on the EasyDigiTax website. After approx. one week, you then receive an email with a Calendly link to schedule an appointment.

The initial consultation itself is free and unfortunately not with a tax advisor, but with an assistant.

Initial Consultation

The person arrived a few minutes late for the call. She had not read the notes I had sent beforehand by email in detail, but at least skimmed them. So the conversation consisted mainly of me reading my notes to her.

Similar to the conversation with expats.global, she seemed to have a questionnaire she wanted to ask me. The questions were partly similarly absurd, and the question "what is your goal?" was there again too. Yes, my goal is to solve the situation with the exit tax, who would have guessed.

Apparently, they do not necessarily offer "normal" tax advice, but have specialized in a kind of curious course and coaching model (??).

Pricing Model

I was offered two packages:
  • "Concept for the exit tax": €8k fixed price. I strongly suspect that implementation is not included here. So you get a kind of concept of how Michael Wohlfahrt would theoretically solve the exit tax situation. But you presumably have to implement it yourself.
  • "Do-it-yourself course": €4.5k fixed price. You receive access to an online course for 12 months. The videos in the online course explain the exit tax and possible solutions. This package includes absolutely no consulting; so you are really paying €4.5k just for access to a video course.

I then noted in the conversation that the pricing models generally make little sense and that especially the package with the video course is absolutely not goal-oriented - customers like me want to speak with a "real" tax advisor and get a few ideas for solving their exit tax, but not work through a video course themselves that still doesn't provide an individual solution.

The concept package for €8k, on the other hand, sounds not bad in principle, but I would strongly prefer to pay for the effort per hour here and not in a fixed price of €8k. With a fixed price, you always run the risk in the end of paying a (much) too high price for something where you realize midway through the process that it doesn't "fit" after all.

In principle, it would also be very sensible to book and pay for just one paid consultation hour first, as other tax advisors offer. Unfortunately, they do not offer that.

Thus, EasyDigiTax / kwpartners / Michael Wohlfahrt are out of the question for me. I got the impression that they want to develop a business model here where they can sell products to as large a number of people as possible without having to implement too much. In other words: It is easy to simply unlock access to a video course for people, but you haven't solved their exit tax problems with that. The same applies to the concept: Writing up a concept is comparatively little effort compared to actually implementing the concept and dealing with the tax office.

I would therefore not recommend EasyDigiTax / kwpartners / Michael Wohlfahrt.
Cost / pricing model: 8000 (fixed price)
No, I would not recommend this tax advisor.
